Palenque (Jewellery)
Hand-crafted contemporary jewellery with a Mexican influence
Palenque founder and Mexican Susanna's hands-on approach to sourcing jewellery and working closely with the family businesses that make the items has led to a carefully curated collection displayed in store. Her ties to her home country are evident in the name (Palenque is an ancient Mayan city) and the influences behind the collections stem purely from the artisans' creations, created solely for Palenque customers.
Most of the sterling silver and gold-plated items are handmade in Mexico using traditional techniques of silver processing, cutting, soldering, and melting and casting with little machinery before being hand finished in the UK. Look out too for the floral and textile coin purses, the metal animal-inspired ornaments and the courtyard garden which abounds with bees, birds and colourful hydrangeas and foxgloves in the summer months
“I always had a keen interest in jewellery from a young age, and I was fascinated by a place in Mexico famous for jewellery called Taxco, which is part of the reason I always wanted to have a shop of my own.”
