The Habit
Café bar where a host of bands and singers take to the mic five nights a week
Tues: 10.00 - 23.00
Weds and Thurs: 10.00 - 00.00
Fri and Sat: 10.00 - 01.30
Sun: 10.00 - 22.30
Established in what used to be separate former stonemaker apprentices' and priests' living and working quarters, the Habit was formerly owned by the Minster, and it's a fabulous building to enjoy all those 'nooks and crannies' people like to associate with old buildings or the roof terrace along with a pint.
The nice thing is that they like to support local artists - both painters and musicians - and they've steadily built up a good reputation for live music. You'll have to be quick to take up the mic on Wednesday open night or simply pop along to one of their nights when their regular artists, including guitar vocalists David Ward Maclean and Dave Keegan and Simon Snaize take to the stage.
“We have some murals done for us by customers on display. There's a mural upstairs by an artist who I'm very keen to get inside the brain of!”
