Originally started as an all-women co-op in the 1980s, York Cycleworks is a bike enthusiast's dream. Ask each one of the four directors about their expert area and you could talk away the day: Andy is your man for road bikes and bike fit while mechanics Liam and Andrew man the workshop.
Here, you can get a custom foot bed made, and for serious cyclists, this can make a difference to cycling performance. There's also a dedicated bike fit workshop kitted out with technical equipment, a performance coach on hand, a physio, and look out for their frame builder, Ricky Feather. They're also fiercely proud of their characteristic brightly coloured strip, and the only place to get it is in store.
